Big Pine Web Solutions:
Brand Identity
2025
Big Pine Web Solutions is a boutique development studio based in Kananaskis, Alberta, offering custom websites and digital solutions for small businesses, creatives, and local entrepreneurs. The challenge was to create a brand that felt technically reliable while still reflecting the down-to-earth personality behind the name.
I led the brand development, working with the client to design the logo, typography, colour palette, and overall visual system for their studio.
Overview
How might we create a brand identity that feels technically credible and trustworthy, while still reflecting its grounded, local, and approachable personality?
The challenge
The project began with a focused objective: create a visual identity that reads professional and approachable, with strong ties to nature. While we explored the familiar greens and browns, I also pushed for unexpected color directions to add distinctiveness.
Through a series of collaborative discovery sessions—including moodboards and tone-and-audience exercises—we refined the palette together and settled on deep, moody greens and warm olive tones.
Developing concepts
Design process
From there, I explored typographic pairings and logo concepts that could express both structure and friendliness. The client ultimately landing on a bold wordmark paired with simplified pine tree symbolism.
Once the logo design was finalized, we completed the branding exercise choosing a natural-toned colour palette and complementary type system. Ensuring that the end product was flexible for a variety of digital and prints mediums, was an important consideration.

Refining the visual system
Design process
A full brand system, including:
Primary logo and simplified alternate lockups
A colour palette grounded in natural tones
A typography system using League Spartan, Cooper Hewitt, and Cabin to balance tech with warmth
Visual references inspired by pine trees, open space, and grid-based logic
Each element was crafted to reinforce the studio’s values:
grounded in nature
user-first thinking
ethical technology
